a poem by Duane Marchand AFTER READING: COMPARISON: Seeing two people side by side sometimes reveals something new about each of them. When you compare characters in a story or the themes of two poems, you can be surprised by discovering unexpected likenesses and differences. Compare and contrast the two poems, "The Geese Over the City" and "Tears From the Earth." Look at the structure, techniques, literary devices, themes, punctuation, and subject matter of the poems. How does one start comparing items in a systematic and organized way? One approach is to make a Venn diagram. Label the left circle "The Geese over the City." Label the right circle "Tears From the Earth." In the inner space where the two circles overlap, list three similarities the two poems share. In the outer spaces, where the two circles do no overlap, list three differences in the poems. . |
